POLICE OFFICER (COPS Grant Funded) - Town of Pearisburg $39,993
The Town of Pearisburg Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Certification by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is required.
Job Description / Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as ordinances of the Town of Pearisburg. Ensures safety of the public; enforces laws; investigates criminal activity; gathers and processes evidence; testify in court; prepares and maintains detailed records, files and reports. Officers are required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Starting salary is $39,993 with excellent benefits to include Anthem insurance, VRS retirement, short and long-term disability insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, paid overtime, Christmas bonus, and a take-home Town vehicle for officers that reside within Town limits. 
Applicants must possess Virginia Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer, pass a rigorous background investigation, pass a physical agility test, and pass a psychological and a physical examination. Must be 21 years of age with a clean Virginia record and have no criminal history. Must possess a high school diploma. Having a college degree or college level coursework is highly preferred. Must be willing to establish residence within 10 miles of the Pearisburg Town limits no later than six months from the date of hire.        
This position is partially funded by a three-year Federal Department of Justice COPS Hiring Program (CHP) Grant
